STOP 14
‘Yarra Edge’ and Recreational Boating

Location: River Esplanade, near ‘Yarra Edge’ marina

Recreational boating has now replaced commercial maritime operations and activity in this part of the Birrarung/Yarra.

During the 1990s this stretch of the Birrarung/Yarra, formerly an integral part of the port was re-developed as part of the Docklands Renewal Project. A series of private sector residential developments were located between the Charles Grimes bridge and Bolte Bridge. This section of the Docklands Precinct was completed in 1999, but further development is ongoing. There are two small public parks accessible along this river front and public access along the south bank of the river was maintained.

Development also took place on the water in the form of a marina which is home to 149 privately held berth leases and 180 metres of bookable overnight berths for visiting boats, located riverside of the Birrarung/Yarra, and in the basin next to the Charles Grime pedestrian bridge. This is the closest marina to the CBD.
