The book explores our maritime heritage which stimulated great change and prosperity in Victoria over the past 200 years essentially based upon waterways enabling maritime trade.  These same waterways, which sustained First Peoples so well, also attracted European exploration which resulted in colonial settlement and later, maritime trade.

Former Premier, Ted Baillieu, maritime enthusiast, Patron of the Museum Ship Castlemaine and Chair of the Australian Heritage Council together with Nicholas Reece, then Deputy Lord Mayor now Lord May of Melbourne, launched the book at Docklands Library Theatre on 19 October, the first event in the inaugural MMHN Children’s Maritime Heritage Festival.
